Today marks what would have been Duane Allman’s 71st birthday. This year has been a rough one for the Allman Brothers Band family. From the shocking loss of drummer, Butch Trucks, to the devastating passing of Gregg Allman, ABB fans around the world have endured quite a bit in a short amount of time. If you are like us, you understand just how important, both musically and culturally, the Allman Brothers Band was to rock music. They transcended so many different genres while simultaneously creating a unique stew of blues, southern rock, and jazz, that to this day continues to influence musicians across the globe. There might not be a better video that perfectly encapsulates just what the Brothers could bring in their high energy performances than this live version of “Whipping Post” from the Fillmore East in 1970. The rock and jazz textures are in full swing in this one, so turn it up loud! We miss you, Duane, Gregg, and Butch!
