She Shreds is a three year old magazine that puts its efforts behind recognizing women guitarists and those who specifically, shred. The main premise is to defeat any notion that only men can achieve technical prowess in their guitar playing.
“The idea behind She Shreds Media and She Shreds Magazine is you can be a guitarist and be taught by women, and it’s just normal. It should be like going to guitar player and learning from all the men there.” Learning to shred from Speedy Ortiz guitarist Sadie Dupuis isn’t different in kind from learning to shred from Jack White, Fabi suggests. The guitar doesn’t care about the gender of the person playing it.There is certainly a place for a publication like this as we need more focus on the endeavors and accomplishments of women in the world of guitars.
…we need a magazine like She Shreds to show us not so much that women can do what men do, but rather that playing guitar was never a male-only pursuit in the first place. There have always been women musicians, and, She Shreds promises, there will be even more if you take the time and effort to see them.We fully support She Shreds in its mission of empowering female guitarists and putting them on the forefront of guitar music.
